But with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton publicly emphasizing that the global financial, climate and security crises are more pressing priorities for U.S. policy than China's human rights record, which by her own department's recent admission has "remained poor and worsened in some areas," Beijing has little reason to stop facilitating overseas what it practices at home — repression. Still, the more China insists that it doesn't mix business with politics in its foreign relations, the more evidence it provides of cynically contributing to violence and repression in internally torn states. Sri Lanka is just the latest case demonstrating Beijing's blindness to the consequences of its aggressive pursuit of strategic interests. No sooner had the United States ended direct military aid to Sri Lanka last year over its deteriorating human rights record than China blithely stepped in to fill the breach — a breach widened by India's hands-off approach toward Sri Lanka since a disastrous 1987-90 peacekeeping operation in that island-nation. Beijing began selling larger quantities of arms, and dramatically boosted its aid fivefold in the past year to almost $1 billion to emerge as Sri Lanka's largest donor. Chinese Jian-7 fighter jets, antiaircraft guns, JY-11 3D air surveillance radars and other supplied weapons have played a central role in the Sri Lankan military successes against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (or "Tamil Tigers"), seeking to carve out an independent homeland for the ethnic Tamils in the island's north and east. Beijing even got its ally Pakistan actively involved in Sri Lanka. With Chinese encouragement, Pakistan — despite its own faltering economy and rising Islamist challenge — has boosted its annual military assistance loans to Sri Lanka to nearly $100 million while supplying Chinese-origin small arms and training Sri Lankan air force personnel in precision guided attacks. China has become an enabler of repression in a number of developing nations as it seeks to gain access to oil and mineral resources, to market its goods and to step up investment. They have no sense of morality whatsoever. They put vast sums of money into new and bigger weaponry so that they can kill ever more people. We have been offered the opportunity to go in on a home purchase. Here is the tricky part, our best friends are willing to put the down on the home & we will be the signers. We will live there, pay the mortgage, make some improvements & then when the time comes, sell the house. So their offer is based on making a profit in the end. We have rented for 14 years & figure we will be doing the same here though unsure on how to approach the whole 'share the profit' outcome. During the eight miserable, ineffective and wasteful years of the Bush administration, Karl "Turd Blossom" Rove, the president's chief political advisor, deftly crafted a successful strategy of turning the "little guy" on himself. That being, to divert and distract these Average Joes away from the real issues that effect them--unemployment, wages, health care, education--and instead drive them to the polls through hot-button issues including abortion, gay-marriage and life-support (Terri Schiavo). For a long while, it worked. The little guy consistently voted against his own self-interests. But the little guy's not completely stupid, and the inevitable backlash began with the 2006 midterm elections where Democrats won a small Congressional majority, and kicked into high gear last November, with Barack Obama's presidential victory and the Democratic landslide in the House and Senate. Dejected, the GOP crawled away a broken, dysfunctional family. A tarnished brand. But as this year's tax season rolled around, conservatives issued a rallying cry in the form of "tea parties," those ill-founded, embarrassing, scantly attended protests that were held Wednesday across the nation. Though touted by organizers (most likely GOP funded and supported) as being attended by "Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, and Independents," judging from the crowds and the signs they waved, it was pretty clear this was a decidedly anti-Obama movement. And that's the insane part. What the demonstrators are protesting is what they believe to be higher taxes and wasteful government spending, in particular the $787-billion stimulus plan and the $3-trillion bailouts of banks, Wall Street and the auto industry. But the not-so-comic irony here is that the Obama administration has yet to impose one single tax increase on anyone. To the contrary, it's giving income tax cuts to 95% of Americans, and gives additional tax cuts and credits for small businesses, tuition payers and home buyers. The only individuals that could be hit with an actual tax increase are those whose annual incomes exceed $250,000. An increase, mind you, that's still a full 10 points less than the rates during the Reagan presidency. But I didn't see any seemingly rich dudes in NY, Chicago, DC and elsewhere parking their Benz's and raising any protest signs at these rallies. The crowds, though small, were filled with the same types who've been used and abused before: low and middle-income taxpayers who ironically stand to gain the most from Obama's tax policies. And once again, they've somehow been manipulated by the GOP through lies, misinformation and perhaps even racial bias. I nearly cringed when I saw on Neil Cavuto's Fox News show a few people in the crowd jeering one of the guests being interviewed, a woman from a progressive/green organization, who supports taxing the rich. It was as if the poor and middle class in the crowd had been brainwashed into defending those mistreated rich folk at the hands of the elitist Obama. In case anyone hasn't noticed, there are many recent signs that the economy may finally be turning around. There's been several positive indicators in the banking, home, retail and auto sectors. These people on the other end claim to be Mastercard/Visa reps, offering work at home business opportunities. I told some of these callers that they are scammers who are partly responsible for ruining the economy. I'm not sure how to block this number; it's on my cell phone; Verizon is my provider. I f i keep saving up money ( and my goal is to save money up for 4 years) , i would have $12,000.00 a year adding up to $48,000,00 in 4 years. While i'm saving up money i would get a credit card so i can get a good credit score ( if you have a good credit score , it will increase your chances of getting business loan and investor etc). I would start small and buy a few outfits with the credit card and some food i think for about 6 months. Then i would get a car ( I know i said my dad has alot of cars, like 6 cars but i really need to buy something big with the credit card in order to build up my score) and pay it off , doing this for a year of paying the car bill should build up my credit score if i pay on time) somewhere in the 4 years of saving money and building up credit score. I will think and create new ideas for my business and creating a effective business plan.when my 4 years are up i will start on my business. thats the first plan i have , now here is the second one. 2# I would join the military ( navy or air force) and use the benefits to my advantage. I don't have to worry about housing and etc if i live on base, I would save up my money has was described up top of the first plan and do the same thing i stated above with building up my credit score. I would use the benefits and opportunities to go into college and get the extra pay and stuff. i could use the college benefits to learn managment or business to help me not only do well in business but to also increase my chances of getting a business loan and bank loan etc etc( 48,000 dollars saved up + good credit score+ business degree or whatever kind it is = bigger loan and better chances).
