Resolved Question: Do You Support the Palestinian International Campaign To End the Siege of Gaza?

Our Principles Non-Partisan End the Siege is a non- partisan campaign, initiated and managed by representatives of the civil society, business community, intellectuals, academics, and advocates for human rights from Gaza and the West Bank. We are guided by our commitment to peace, our respect to human dignity, and by our ethical and moral responsibilities. The People People in Gaza are our main concern. This campaign is a genuine call to save People, not to save governments or political parties. The devastating siege on Gaza turning it into a city of death, where all aspects of life are damaged. We must protect life. The International Dimension Palestinians should not be abandoned by the world. The question of Palestine is in the heart of the Middle East conflict and Gaza is in the heart of Palestine. The International community can and should help in advancing justice, democracy and peace in the Middle East. The immediate call is to end the siege on Gaza, end the Israeli occupation, and begin the march of peace. . Broader Participation We seek broader participation and support. We welcome involvement and cooperation of all those who share the principles and values of justice and Peace. Civilians in Gaza are deprived from the basic rights and needs for living, and thus we are determined to move hand in hand with others who believe in freedom, human dignity, and peace to end this tragedy. We will be working to reach wider spectrum of individuals and organizations around the world. Also, did you know that from 2000 to 2008, only 123 Israelis children have been killed, compared to 1050 Palestinian children killed?  more

Open Question: analysis of this article?

*i need your opinions about this.thanks! Escape global financial crisis, visit North Korea By Yoo Choonsik PYONGYANG, Oct 30 (Reuters) - As the rest of the world groans under the strain of the spreading financial storm, life in the self-described paradise of North Korea remains blissfully untouched. "We know many countries are struggling due to the financial crisis ... we have no problem here," said a North Korean guide working with a visiting aid group from the South, whose economy has been among the hardest hit as financial markets tumble around the world. North Korea's centrally planned economy, built around the state ideology of self-reliance, has little time for capitalism and has only in recent years grudgingly allowed even street markets to emerge. It has no stock market and visitors pay for everything in foreign currency at an officially set -- and inflated -- exchange rate. It also has one of the world's poorest economies that has managed to avoid any impact from the surge in economic growth of its East Asian neighbours. Constantly under threat of famine, its 22 million population has an annual per capita income, by one estimate, of no more than $400. That's about 2 percent of the level in capitalist South Korea. "We are hearing that it will take a while until the countries come out of the crisis, but ... we are okay because we have a different system," said the guide, whose duties included blocking his charges from making any contact with ordinary North Koreans. But the looming global recession has come at an awkward time for Pyongyang's leaders, just as they are gradually mending fences with the outside world over their nuclear weapons ambitions with the hope of tapping into the international economy from which they have largely isolated themselves for the best part of 60 years. This month, Washington removed North Korea from its list of governments that sponsor terrorism, lifting a major deterrent to doing business with a country still barred under United Nations sanctions from dealing with outside financial firms. "The removal from the list will help our country improve relations with the United States," the guide said, without going into detail on how it might lift an economy whose industrial base has mostly rusted into decay. North Korea's economy had flourished in the 1970s but has since been contracting, prompting many analysts to say it has become a failed state. Its current leader Kim Jong-il inherited the position from his father and North Korea's first ruler. Despite the policy of self-reliance, North Koreans depend heavily on aid, mostly from neighbouring China and South Korea but the government shows no sign that it is ready to open up more than a crack. Visitors are banned from bringing their mobile phones into the country. The Internet exists, but it can take quite a long time to send a simple email. "Fill in the application form and give it to me. I will get back to you quickly, in just 30 minutes," a member of staff at one of the two biggest tourist hotels in Pyongyang told a guest who asked to use a computer to send an email. The hotel staff balked when the guest said he wanted to email his wife in South Korea, with which the North remains technically at war. "No, you can't. You should not write to an email address in the South," said a hotel worker in charge of international communications. An hour, rather than the promised 30 minutes later, she allowed the guest to send an email to his daughter in the United States for $3 -- in hard cash. http://in.reuters.com/article/businessNews/idINIndia-36220320081030  more

Resolved Question: Can you please please assist me with some advice. Please and thanks. Ten points to most helpful answer?

I’m having some major difficulties with what major to choose. Please please please please do not advise me to take up general ed courses, if you are, then please please don’t bother answering! Don’t mean to sound rude, but just hear me out first. For the longest time, I wanted to major in International Business, but then I asked around and did more research and eventually came to know that all the international business courses are theory. Having found this out, I diverted away from this major. But now for some reason I have reverted back to this major. The problem is I want to major in something fun and interesting. I have considered so many different careers but still can’t come to terms with that I really want to do. All I know is that I want to travel the world and become successful. Once again, I just want to major in something that will give me the opportunity to find an exciting and interesting job. I also do know that you have to master 1-2 languages in order to be successful with an International Business degree. I have also considered technology, but I just can’t figure out what in technology. Also, which degree will be hot in the future..international business or finance? I do know for a fact that in academia and the real world jobs, the ones that are really exciting and interesting are few and far between and seldom do they pay well. Anyway, I think I just have to come to terms with the fact that the working world just isn’t that interesting or exciting. I guess it’s called “work” and not “play” for a reason, lol. If you can somehow guide me, please do so. THANKS!  more

Resolved Question: i need someone to help me put this in my "own words" (:?

The legal system affects nearly every aspect of our society, from buying a home to crossing the street. Lawyers form the backbone of this system, linking it to society in numerous ways. They hold positions of great responsibility and are obligated to adhere to a strict code of ethics. Lawyers, also called attorneys, act as both advocates and advisors in our society. As advocates, they represent one of the parties in criminal and civil trials by presenting evidence and arguing in court to support their client. As advisors, lawyers counsel their clients about their legal rights and obligations and suggest particular courses of action in business and personal matters. Whether acting as an advocate or an advisor, all attorneys research the intent of laws and judicial decisions and apply the law to the specific circumstances faced by their clients. The more detailed aspects of a lawyer’s job depend upon his or her field of specialization and position. Although all lawyers are licensed to represent parties in court, some appear in court more frequently than others. Trial lawyers, who specialize in trial work, must be able to think quickly and speak with ease and authority. In addition, familiarity with courtroom rules and strategy is particularly important in trial work. Still, trial lawyers spend the majority of their time outside the courtroom, conducting research, interviewing clients and witnesses, and handling other details in preparation for a trial. Lawyers may specialize in a number of areas, such as bankruptcy, probate, international, elder, or environmental law. Those specializing in environmental law, for example, may represent interest groups, waste disposal companies, or construction firms in their dealings with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other Federal and State agencies. These lawyers help clients prepare and file for licenses and applications for approval before certain activities may occur. Some lawyers specialize in the growing field of intellectual property, helping to protect clients’ claims to copyrights, artwork under contract, product designs, and computer programs. Other lawyers advise insurance companies about the legality of insurance transactions, guiding the company in writing insurance policies to conform to the law and to protect the companies from unwarranted claims. When claims are filed against insurance companies, these attorneys review the claims and represent the companies in court. Most lawyers are in private practice, concentrating on criminal or civil law. In criminal law, lawyers represent individuals who have been charged with crimes and argue their cases in courts of law. Attorneys dealing with civil law assist clients with litigation, wills, trusts, contracts, mortgages, titles, and leases. Other lawyers handle only public-interest cases—civil or criminal—concentrating on particular causes and choosing cases that might have an impact on the way law is applied. Lawyers are sometimes employed full time by a single client. If the client is a corporation, the lawyer is known as “house counsel” and usually advises the company concerning legal issues related to its business activities. These issues might involve patents, government regulations, contracts with other companies, property interests, or collective bargaining agreements with unions. A significant number of attorneys are employed at the various levels of government. Some work for State attorneys general, prosecutors, and public defenders in criminal courts. At the Federal level, attorneys investigate cases for the U.S. Department of Justice and other agencies. Government lawyers also help develop programs, draft and interpret laws and legislation, establish enforcement procedures, and argue civil and criminal cases on behalf of the government. Other lawyers work for legal aid societies—private, nonprofit organizations established to serve disadvantaged people. These lawyers generally handle civil, rather than criminal, cases. Lawyers increasingly use various forms of technology to perform more efficiently. Although all lawyers continue to use law libraries to prepare cases, most supplement conventional printed sources with computer sources, such as the Internet and legal databases. Software is used to search this legal literature automatically and to identify legal texts relevant to a specific case. In litigation involving many supporting documents, lawyers may use computers to organize and index material. Lawyers must be geographically mobile and able to reach their clients in a timely matter, so they might use electronic filing, web and videoconferencing, and voice-recognition technology to share information more effectively. 10 points to the first use-able answer (: thanks in advance*  more

Resolved Question: Which merchant account to use?

I'm looking to start an online business. And I want to accept payments by Credit Cards. I would be doing recurring billings too. But, I'm kinda confused with which service I should use. I'm based outside the U.S and 1shoppingcart's reseller's website recommends WorldPay as as International Merchant Account provider. Then I went to some other shopping cart software's website and they state fees from Authorize.net. What is Authorize.net anyway? Do i need WorldPay and Authorize.net at the same time? Can anyone guide me on this?  more

Resolved Question: What major to take to become a multiple -foreign language translator?

I want to become a translator, but I don't know what to major in. I hear to major in a foreign language but I have more than one language that I want to learn(Japanese,Mandarin Chinese,French,Icelandic). What would be an appropriate major to have all these incorporated? Im interested in doing travel booking/agent,tour guide, air port assistance stuff, so I'm not really into International business, law,or medical. I also keep hearing about linguistics ,but isn't that more for people who want to do speech therapy and more involved with learning the science of language? So should I something like international studies, relations, affairs or something? So to list out what im asking is.. 1) What would be a recommended major for someone that wants to be a translator for multiple languages? 2)What would be a nice minor to complement my major? 3)Whats the difference between International studies, relations, and affairs, and would majoring in one of those help me accomplish the translator thing for multiple languages? 4) And also your personal opinion about what I'm doing, and how I'm going about this, do you think its a smart route? Thanks ahead. :) To goddess of grammar. Icelandic I think would be in high demand because its a hard yet beautiful language and very few can translate it, but Iceland is one of our highest economic powers(well not sure about now with the economy and all). They have alot of trade/banks throughout Europe. and i have base in Chinese, Japanese, and french the only one i would be learning from scratch is Icelandic.  more

Resolved Question: How do I become a Multiple Language Translator?

I'm interested in becoming a foreign language translator. But I'm not sure what to major in, and I keep hearing to major in the foreign language you wish to study, but I have more than one. Currently my strongest language know is Japanese, and Ive been into that forever but still want to have proper college professor to teach me and hopefully to study abroad one day. But I also want to learn french( the second language I know most),Mandarin Chinese, and Icelandic (one of the languages from one of the worlds highest economic powers..well it used to be until all this economic crap took place), and possibly Russian. Thing is I don't know what to major in. Sometimes I also hear to major in International business, medical, or law but I'm not really into those. I'm more into tour guide translator, travel agent, air port assistance kind of thing..is this possible? And whats the difference between International Studies, International Relations, and International Affairs.Could someone give me a valid definition to each. And would majoring in one of those help me accomplish the translator thing for multiple languages. If someone can help me I'm trying to plan out my future better, so I don't go on taking more unnecessary classes like I was before and not developing to what I want to do.Its a waste of time and money, for I am a poor college student :P So to list it out I need 1) What would be a recommended major for someone that wants to be a translator for multiple languages? 2)What would be a nice minor to complement my major? 3)Whats the difference between International studies, relations, and affairs, and would majoring in one of those help me accomplish the translator thing for multiple languages? 4) And also your personal opinion about what I'm doing, and how I'm going about this, do you think its a smart route? Thanks ahead. :) Yes Alexander B, I think look online is a obvious solution. But my situation is too specific and cant be found online. That's why I'M ASKING! Dictionary.com is obviously not going to solve my problem either HUGGY BEAR! Isnt linguistics more of the science of language like how they are formed? And it seems like I wouldn't have a choice of what language to study in linguistics..and even if I minor in a language where would that leave the others ones I wanted to study?  more

First, a little background: I'm fluent in both Spanish and English, love to travel, I'm a great planner, love to learn as well as share what I know, and I hold two bachelor's degrees. My degrees are in Fisheries & Wildlife Science and International Studies. I have lived and studied in both Mexico and Ecuador. My idea for a business is still forming in my mind, so I would love any suggestions you might have. Basically, I want to work as a sort of travel agent/tour guide/interpreter. I would plan and book trips for clients and could be booked to go along as tour guide &/or interpreter. I think I would specialize in eco-tourism throughout latin America, the Caribbean, and other Spanish speaking areas. Of course historical, cultural, musical, artistic, archaeological, whatever the client wants aspects could be included. Clients could choose from different levels of involvement on my part; from, say, just booking and giving some pointers and sending them on their way to planning, booking, accompaniment, translating, tour-guiding, etc... Do you think this could be a successful venture for me? Do you have any ideas, opinions, suggestions about my idea? What should my first step be? Thanks in advance!  more

Resolved Question: S.A.T exams for international students?

Hello, i'm a British mature student who needs to get into Albany state Uni. I'm wondering atm how do i go about applying for a placement at the uni. I read i need to sit a couple of tests but i am so not sure. So, i was hoping someone could tell me whether SAT's are for internal (i.e. american from USA) students or for all students, whether domestic to USA or international. Also if i sit the SAT test this year will i be able to get into a course starting in 2008 or am i too late? p.s. i have plenty of time on my hands...  more

An Old Newness By Thomas Sowell, Tuesday, April 29, 2 0 0 8 Thomas S o w e l l Rose and Milton Friedman Senior Fellow The Hoover Institution S t a n f o r d University S t anford, California 94305 Many years ago, a great hitter named Paul Waner was nearing the end of his long career. He entered a ballgame with 2,999 hits -- one hit away from the landmark total of 3,000, which so many hitters want to reach, but which relatively few actually do reach. Waner hit a ball that the fielder did not handle cleanly but the official scorer called it a hit, making it Waner's 3,000th. Paul Waner then sent word to the official scorer that he did not want that questionable hit to be the one that put him over the top. The official scorer reversed himself and called it an error. Later Paul Waner got a clean hit for number 3,000. What reminded me of this is the great fervor that many seem to feel over the prospect of the first black President of the United States. No doubt it is only a matter of time before there is a black president, just as it was only a matter of time before Paul Waner got his 3,000th hit. The issue is whether we want to reach that landmark so badly that we are willing to overlook how questionably that landmark is reached. Paul Waner had too much pride to accept a scratch hit. Choosing a President of the United States is a lot more momentous than a baseball record. We the voters need to have far more concern about who we put in that office that holds the destiny of a nation and of generations yet unborn. There is no reason why someone as arrogant, foolishly clever and ultimately dangerous as Barack Obama should become president -- especially not at a time when the threat of international terrorists with nuclear weapons looms over 300 million Americans. Many people seem to regard elections as occasions for venting emotions, like cheering for your favorite team or choosing a Homecoming Queen. The three leading candidates for their party's nomination are being discussed in terms of their demographics -- race, sex and age -- as if that is what the job is about. One of the painful aspects of studying great catastrophes of the past is discovering how many times people were preoccupied with trivialities when they were teetering on the edge of doom. The demographics of the presidency are far less important than the momentous weight of responsibility that office carries. Just the power to nominate federal judges to trial courts and appellate courts across the country, including the Supreme Court, can have an enormous impact for decades to come. There is no point feeling outraged by things done by federal judges, if you vote on t he basis of emotion for those who appoint them. Barack Obama has already indicated that he wants judges who make social policy instead of just applying the law. He has already tried to stop young violent criminals from being tried as adults. Although Senator Obama has presented himself as the candidate of new things -- using the mantra of 'change' endlessly -- the cold fact is that virtually everything he says about domestic policy is straight out of the 1960s and virtually everything he says about foreign policy is straight out of the 1930s. Protecting criminals, attacking business, increasing government spending, promoting a sense of envy and grievance, raising taxes on people who are productive and subsidizing those who are not -- all this is a re-run of the 1960s. We paid a terrible price for such 1960s notions in the years that followed, in the form of soaring crime rates, double-digit inflation and double-digit unemployment. During the 1960s, ghettoes across the countries were ravaged by riots from which many have not fully recovered to this day. The violence and destruction were concentrated not where there was the greatest poverty or injustice but where there were the most liberal politicians, promoting grievances and hamstringing the police. Internationally, the approach that Senator Obama proposes -- including the media magic of meetings between heads of state -- was tried during the 1930s. That approach, in the name of peace, is what led to the most catastrophic war in human history. Everything seems new to those too young to remember the old and too ignorant of history to have heard about it. The example that he cited are based on relationships, yes- whether they be a cousin or a hairdresser. However, the GREAT BIG DIFFERENCE is that when someone goes out of their way to verbally expound the degree of influence that someone has on you as well as when you tout this person as a role model or "mentor" - well now this is VERY dofferent. By doing this, you indeed are connecting yourself to this person in every way since you indicated that their beliefs were used to mentor and foster your own beliefs. When you look up to someone as a mentor or role model, you are believing in the basic principles of theirs. Obama's open statements to th ereverend being his spiritual mentor and best friend makes his beliefs as suspect as the reverend's. In addition, Obama can now denounce all he wants to but how could he be a parishioner for 17 years and listen to these types of statements if as Obama NOW states are "outrageous"? I think that we need to realy questiob Obama's truthfullness or question his judgement. In either case, the country should seriously reconsider any support for such a candidate. It is frightening that Obama's paltform really emphasizes "change" and his real agenda would seem to indicate other. We need to change our support to Senator Clinton and assure her success in November.3/17/2008 9:05:12 PMRecommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy LISANROY wrote:amemended comments of dr kamal roy dt 3,17,2008LISANROY wrote:COMmENTS OF REV DR KAMAL KARNA Karuna ROY A REPUBLICAN CANIDATE AND HoPEFUL TO BE the NOMINEE OF GOP IN SCHEDULED ELECTION FOr NOV 4, 2008, IF BE HELD WITHOUT any COURT ORDER OF INJUNCTION to postpone corrpt election as PRAYED BY DR kamal k k ROY ALLEGING SKY_HIGH AND CLOUD_DARK CORRUPTIONS BY DEFENDANTS IN CIVIL ACTIONS FILED IN 20+ U S D COURT actions in 20+ different JURISDICTIONS with allegations against defendants for negligence to enforce laws not TO PUSH OUT ELECTORAL CONTESTANTS FROM WEAKER COMMUNITIES OF HAVE-nots 3/17/2008 9:04:05 PMRecommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy rmorris391 wrote:well this is "midly amusing". It is a thinly veiled attempt to incite debate over issues, and non-issues, which may be unrelated to the national campaign. While the Mainstream Media (MSM) has too much time on its hands, to consider a long winded campaign, the focus has shifted to non-political discourse, about intractable problems that confound american society. We have issues related to baseball players, after all, who alledgedly used illegal substances to puff up their biceps. Certainly, congress can devise a surge campaign to intervene with major league baseball, and save the poor players from the rich players. After all, the economic crisis in MLB is looming, and requires some "foreign ownership equity." This is, afterall the land of "ownership." At least that is what a young president Bush promised the american public. Once a new president is elected, a series of "signing agreements" can be implemented to remove my umbrages.3/17/2008 8:54:47 PMRecommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy LL22102 wrote:Man.... Dr. Joseph Geronimo, Jr.) is a prolific pro se litigant who, since at least the early 1990s, has filed numerous lawsuits throughout the United States and its territories under the names Roy and Joseph Geronimo, Jr., as well as under the names of entities that he is affiliated with, including International Siva Consciousness & World Religions, Reforms International, Handicap Interests International, and Jungle Democracy.[1] Roy's lawsuits are often brought against multiple defendants, and feature long, unconventional complaints. Roy has filed lawsuits against God, U.S. Presidents, Supreme Court Justices, fast food restaurants, foreign leaders.[2], and Wikipedia [3] [4].Roy's lawsuits have addressed, among many other things, actions taken by President George W. Bush, overcharging by telecommunication companies, the appointment of Chief Justice John Roberts to the Supreme Court, and "failure of democratic societies and God's role therein."[5] In 2006 Judge Michael W. McConnell of The United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit described a typical Roy complaint:Roy, a/k/a Joseph Geronimo, Jr. filed a 115-page complaint, a 144-page amended complaint, and a 40-page second amended complaint against over sixty defendants, including among many others President Bush, God as U.S.-based divine benefactor, several government agencies, The New York Times, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. In addition to pages of rambling discourse, the complaint contains numerous illegible handwritten remarks.[6]The Tenth Circuit went on to affirm the district court's dismissal of the complaint holding that no discernible claim was apparent from the complaint. Judge McConnell also humorously noted that the court "strongly suspect[ed] at least one defendant was not properly served."[7]Most, if not all, of Roy's complaints have been dismissed. A 2006 United States District Court for the District of Delaware opinion, Jungle Democracy v. U.S., describes Roy as "no stranger to litigation" and provides a partial list of Roy lawsuits that have been dismissed since 1991.[8]Despite Roy's lack of success in the courts, his lawsuits have been discussed in law school classrooms and in law related blogs.[9] [10]In April 2007 Roy filed a civil rights action against, among others, CBS Broadcasting Inc., MSNBC, the United States Government, and controversial radio shock jock Don Imus.[11]In October, 2007, Roy filed a suit in the US District Court, Middle District of Florida, against "Wikipedia Encyclopedia, USA, All News Media, All State Board of Elections, Federal Election Commission".
